Deep South Studio
Sarah Bernzott, artist
I was raised in the deep south. The variety and beauty of the landscape have always intrigued me, from the beaches and mountains of Georgia, to the unique cultures of people who live and work here, and the farms and businesses that sustain them. I attempt to translate my love for this land, for these people through my artwork. Though I love pastel, I often pick up oils, acrylics or watermedia to try to help me convey my interpretation of the actions, events, and people I see and love. Even better, I mix and blend them to achieve the unique atmosphere needed for each piece.
I also create jewelry, focusing on copper, but employing a number of metals and gemstones. The metal that I use to create is most often
recycled, blended with modern components, and they always have a unique story. Whether the piece was created with tin from a 90+ year old building in the neighboring county or the brass was pulled from the ocean just 8 miles away, I work to create unique artful jewelry that is affordable to almost everyone, and will be treasured for years to come.
Trained professionally as a teacher, my abiding principle is education. With that in mind, my husband founded a company that focuses on providing “pop-up” art education and events in and around our geographic area of Savannah, GA. We work diligently with area non-profits, businesses and civic entities to ensure that anyone who wants an opportunity to participate in the creative process has that opportunity. Create An Artspace holds workshops at our studio space in Starland Studios, or we “pop-up” in places and events that encourage people to participate in art.
My goal is to enjoy creating my artwork, sharing my knowledge of art and instruction, and provide lasting memories for those who participate in our activities or purchase our art.
