Direction to Tybee Island

Driving

Tybee Island is easily accessible via I-95 (north or south), if you are arriving from South Carolina or Florida; or    from I-16 (east only), which ends in Savannah, GA (about 20-25 minutes from Tybee Island).

From I-95

You should exit I-95 onto I-16 East.  Follow I-16 E until it ends, and turns into Montgomery Street (in historic Savannah).  Follow Montgomery Street to Oglethorpe Avenue (2nd traffic light) and turn right onto Oglethorpe Avenue.  Follow Oglethorpe Avenue to East Broad Street.  Turn left at East Broad Street and follow it to E. President Street (just a few blocks).  At E. President Street, turn right. You are now on Islands Expressway.  Follow Islands Expressway; it turns into Hwy 80 on Whitemarsh Island (about 4 miles).  Remain on Hwy 80, going over the overpass (unless you need to stop at Wal-Mart or CVS Drug Store).  Stay on Hwy 80 East until you reach Tybee Island.  You will cross Bull River Bridge, Ft. Pulaski, and the Lazaretto Creek Bridge (be careful on this bridge - it is both scenic and iconic, with shrimp boats and dolphin tours on one side and Cockspur Lighthouse on the other. Driving too slowly or crossing the center line will probably result in an accident).  Follow Hwy 80 East into Tybee Island (making sure to obey all posted speed signs), and make your first stop the Tybee Island Visitor's Center.  You will find it at the first light you reach (Campbell & 1st. Street, where Hwy 80 changes its name again.  Hwy 80 ends at 16th St. (Tybrisa), downtown Tybee Island, and is marked with a sign.  There is also a concrete plaque in Park of the 7 Flags, honoring the end of Hwy 80, and veterans of the Korean War.
