Five Ways to Celebrate National Small Business Week 2018

About National Small Business Week

Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.

More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year.

As part of National Small Business Week, the U.S. Small Business Administration takes the opportunity to highlight the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs, small business owners, and others from all 50 states and U.S. territories. Every day, they’re working to grow small businesses, create 21st century jobs, drive innovation, and increase America’s global competitiveness.

National Business Week 2018 is quickly approaching.

Included below are are a simple few ways that you can celebrate this tradition that has been recognized for more than 50 years.

It doesn't matter whether you own a small business, work for one, or just love shopping or spending time in one.  There are many different ways that you can support these businesses, and become part of the tradition.

1.  Share your Story

  • Don't keep your story a secret.

  • Share the secret of your success.

  • Your customers will be interested, and will be honored that you shared your inspiration with them.

  • Limit length, use bullets, and photos - make it eye catching

2. Say Thank You to Your Customers

  • Honor those who make your business such a success...your customers and your staff.

  • Find a special way to say thank you.

  • Keep it simple - card, phone call, email, thank you on social media, FB live broadcast shared

  • Don't allow yourself to get too busy and forget to follow through.

3.  Partner with Another Small Business

  • Small businesses are the lifeblood of America.  Find a similar local one and join forces.

  • Consider a non-profit.  A good cause draws public attention; helps the non-profit share its message.

  • Set up a display in a local store, place tent cards on tables at local restaurants, partner business coupons for his/her customers

  • Focus on collaboration - you both bring something different to "the table" and each benefit
